Game Review

I like Monkey Island. I've always liked it. This game has such a simple premise and such superb everything makes it almost impossible to hate. Let's start from the start though, and I will try and make it perfectly clear why this game rocks so much.

Okay, listen up! This game is about pirates. Pirates and booty. No, I don't mean this is a porn game where Pirates slap their bums together, I mean that this is a game about pirates lootin' everything they come across. Or, well, try to. The story follow the misadventures of a pirate wannabe GuyBrush Threepwood, who wants to go to Monkey Island to find a treasure he's heard of. He first needs to prove that he's a mighty pirate (or just a mighty pirate wannabe, which seems to be good enough for the I-be-a-mighty-pirate-yarr-contest jury). Guybrush needs to prove himself, get a crew, sail to Monkey Island and get that darn bootin' treasure! Of course, it just isn't that easy, but I won't spoil it all ;) All I'm going to say is that you're gonna have to get through the sheriff, and through the ghost pirate LeChuck. Eeep :D

The graphics, for '90 standards, are excellent in every sense of the word 'excellent'. Like, woah. The backdrops are high quality, and the character animation is top notch. There is absolutely nothing I could say against the cosmetics. The sound, however, sucks. I never could get the Adlib working, which limited me to the bleep-bloop-doop of the PC speaker. Sad thing is, that the music is well-written, and it still made me hum along at points. Heh, fucking asses. It should be banned >_<

The gameplay is what you'd expect of a LucasArts game, or wouldn't, if you don't know LucasArts games. It's the simple 12-verb system, where you have a choice between various actions, like 'look at', 'pick up', 'walk to' and 'talk to' and all that crap. It works surprisingly well, since the system shows you if an item is useable by showing you the name of it between the game screen and the actions/inventory screen. Works like a charm, believe me.

What I also want to mention, however, is the sheer gaming fun. The game is extremely fun to play, because of the fun puzzles, the hilarious dialogs and insane situations Guybrush keeps getting himself into. The bottmline seems to be that youd'd be best off getting this darn game. Yarr!
