Game Review
Okay. This is a story I've been telling people for quite some time now, and I still wholly support what I'm saying here. Full Throttle is one of the best, maybe even the best game LucasArts has ever delivered. Yes, you heard me right, I'm saying this here game is one of the best games I've ever seen from LucasArts. Why? I'll try to explain.
First off, let's start with the whole LucasArts bit. They had a whole line of quirky, funny, insane adventures with all kinds of inane and banal jokes like Monkey Island (all) and Maniac Mansion, along with a line of semi-serious stuff like Indiana Jones and the sorts. And at one point, one of the smart ones at LucasArts thought - 'Hey, why not make a game which has a really cool dude as the main cool guy, with a cool-ass bike and cool-ass stuff and let's have BAD shit happen to him. Like, not the pansy-assed 'he stole my lunch money' kind of BAD shit, but the BAD shit. Oh, and we need to see blood!'. And lo and behold! Full Throttle came out! A much more mature game than any other LucasArts adventure, and to be quite honest, one of the most mature adventures of that period as a whole. Let's just say that this was the first LucasArts game where we see somebody, well, die (and I dont mean that somebody dies - you actually SEE it). And that says a LOT.
The graphics are top-notch, as we're all used to by now. LucasArts has a high rep when it comes to 2D VGA graphics, and they prove their mastery once more. Great character design, GREAT backdrops, and awesome bikes. There's a lot of 3D in here, and it's flowed in with the 2D parts seemlessly. All the cutscenes are worth watching. Seriously. When I got this game back in '95, I was awe-struck. I hadn't seen this kind of eyecandy before. Also, the sound is perfect. ALL the voice actors play their roles perfectly, and all the voices fit the characters REAL well. Also, the music was good enough to get me inspired to buy the album they took some tracks off (Gone Jackals - Bone to Pick, Black&Blue; Records, if I'm not mistaken).
This game has a story which flows really well. You constantly have an understanding as to why you're doing stuff. You don't do stuff because you're told to. You do stuff because you KNOW you have to. There's no choice - there's no questions. You know what you're supposed to do and bloody hell, you're going to fucking do them well!
Play this, if you're into adventures. if you haven't played Full Throttle, shame on you. If you don't want to play Full Throttle, then damn you, you're not a real adventure game fan! Why? Because Full Throttle is one of the best, maybe even the best game LucasArts has ever delivered. And I'm quite sure of that.
